Improving Page Indexation

Rebuilt the site structure and internal linking so Google could find more pages, raising the indexed share from 41% to 61% and growing average daily organic clicks by 81%.

Google Search Console Pages report, annotated: 41% of known pages indexed on 24 July 2026, 55% on 5 September and 61% on 20 September
Industry
Healthcare SaaS
Timeline
8 weeks to grow indexed pages from 41% to 61%, and 4 months to grow organic clicks by 81%
Objectives
Getting drug-code pages indexed & growing organic clicks
Strategy
Site structure rebuild & internal linking

The Challenge

Most organic traffic came from branded searches, while the site's 1,700+ drug-code pages were under-optimized. Google was also leaving 59% of known pages out of its index, 90% of them drug-code pages with real search demand, and high-intent tools like NDC Lookup and HCPCS Code Lookup weren't ranking.

Engagement length: June–October 2026

The Results

  • ✓
Share of known pages indexed by Google rose from 41% (24 July) to 55% (5 September) and 61% (20 September).
  • ✓
+81% organic clicks: average daily clicks grew from ~85 in the last week of May, before the engagement started, to ~154 in the last week of September.
  • ✓
+66% J-code clicks: organic clicks to J-code pages, the site's highest-intent money category, grew from ~58 to ~96 a day over the same period.

My Approach

  • ✓
Rebuilt the site structure so drug-code pages are easier for Google to reach, for example by removing infinite scroll from the drug category pages
  • ✓
Improved internal linking to high-demand pages to get crawled-but-unindexed pages indexed, for example with a scrolling “Popular drugs” row under the search bar that links straight to popular drug pages like J9271 Keytruda and J9299 Opdivo
  • ✓
Optimized the on-page content of the drug-code pages. They were built programmatically and looked very similar to each other, so I added a unique drug overview, side effects and manufacturer information to each page, making them more helpful instead of differing only by price
  • ✓
Ran a first round of on-page optimization on the homepage and top navigation, adding links to the high-intent tools
  • ✓
Tracked indexing page by page with the Search Console URL Inspection API across every sitemap URL
